PANELVANS
These
are a great choice for couples having the room for a full size double
bed in the rear which can remain all made up and ready to go, all you
need do is toss your luggage into the front and your ready to sleep
the nite away. Having around 30 cm extra headroom (the roof is higher
than a wagon) its also much more comfortable to live out off, being
able to sit upright and eat dinner or read a book without ending up
with a hunch back ! It's possible to seat up to three people in the
front bench seat comfortably although for long distances they are more
suitable for 2 people.
They
have all the benefits of the Ford Falcon Wagon, great economy (12litres
per 100km), cheap to repair and a lot of power for highway driving (4.1
litre engines) They are most commonly automatics or 3 speed manuals,
power steering is sometimes available but not common and in comparison
with wagons they are slightly dearer. Overall they are a great choice
for touring for 2 people who's budget doesn't extend to a campervan

VANS
These
come either as commercial style vans (empty in back) or people movers
with seating for up to 8 people comfortably, mostly powered by 4 cylinder
engines of between 1.6 litre and 2.4 litre in size with economy of around
12 litres per 100 km's. Nissan Urvans, Toyota Tarago's / Hiaces & Mitsubishi's
are the most common of the vans which we stock and recommend both for
reliability and performance, parts are a little dearer than for Ford
Falcon Wagons but are readily available in most major towns throughout
Australia.
Having
smaller engines than the big Fords/ Holdens, cruising speeds will be
a little slower and hills will reduce your speed even more so you should
have plenty of time up your sleeve to do your tour and be in no big
hurry. People mover vans are very popular with groups of 5 or more as
there is quite a lot of room to "party" and for your luggage. Quite
often the seats will fold flat making a huge bed in the rear and with
a tent that we supply you can sleep the whole crew "no worries".
Commercial
style vans can be fitted with mattresses in the rear and still allow
room for luggage / living area, good head room, and can be quite comfortable
to live out off, kinda like a "poor mans" campervan ! They seat up to
3 people on the front bench seat and are a great choice for touring.

GUIDE FOR VANS:
SEMI
- CAMPERS
These
are vans which have been converted and fitted - out with similar features
as a campervan but on a much simpler scale. A basic fit out would consist
of a seat which folds down into a bed with storage underneath, with
more elaborate semi-campers having lounges which fold down into a bed,
sinks, dining tables and even gas cookers but no pop-top roof. They
are very practical and affordable and have the same engines, economy,
seating capacity and reliability as regular vans do and are a great
alternative to a campervan. We can build semi-campers to suit your requirements
and budget on our premises as pictured.
